The Build Fellowship is a national network of Fellowship programs offered to foreign national innovators, experts, and entrepreneurs committed to shaping the future of the United States.
Global talent from high-growth industries are employed part-time as Build Fellows to lead students at our partner colleges and universities in real-world experiential learning projects and career development programming.
Fellows are sponsored for part-time cap-exempt H-1B visas, enabling them to stay and build companies and careers in the U.S. while ensuring students are prepared to enter their careers.
The Build Fellowship incurs no cost upon partner schools or their students.

The Build Fellowship partners with education institutions to build student’s industry-skills through experiential learning projects, provide them with mentorship from global talent, and open opportunities for students to get practical training and connect with employers in the U.S. 's fastest growing industries.
Immigration Pathways & Support for International Students or Alumni
The Build Fellowship provides an alternative to the H-1B visa lottery with a 99% success rate to create immigration pathways for international students and alumni to build careers and launch companies in the U.S.
Career Services: Education Programs to Train Students
The Build Fellowship offers students at partner institutions world-class subject matter training and expertise through Build Projects that provide work experience to students, 1-on-1 domain-specific Build Sessions, and educational materials.
What are Build Projects?
Dynamic and immersive 8-week projects led by Build Fellows that aim to introduce selected students to their fields of interest. Selected participants engage in weekly live sessions with a Build Fellow and approximately 2–15 students. Students receive a certificate upon completion.
Industry Focused Experience
The projects center around specific industries, providing participants with hands-on, real-world challenges that will help them better understand their field of interest and bridge the gap between the classroom and industry.
Resume Building
Students produce deliverables they can showcase on their resumes and portfolios to impress hiring managers filing entry-level positions.
Entry-level
Projects are designed to be accessible for students at any level of their professional career. We encourage first and second year students to participate.
What are Build Sessions?
Build Sessions are led by Build Fellows and involve tailored 1:1 interactions, focusing on various aspects of career development. Sessions provide students with the opportunity to grow their network, build their social capital, and receive mentorship from global talent.

International Student Offices: Support Your International Students & Alumni
For international students finishing Optional Practical Training (OPT) post-graduation, the H-1B work visa is the most common next step to work in the United States.
Universities require help attaining solutions for their international students and alumni to find alternatives to the capped H-1B lottery. Build Fellows are offered part-time employment opportunities at non-profit organizations affiliated with universities and sponsored for cap-exempt H-1B visas.
Who are Build Fellows?
Entrepreneurs, innovators, international alumni of our partner schools are offered part-time employment opportunities through The Build Fellowship. Fellows are sponsored for cap-exempt H-1B visas, which enables U.S. employers to file a concurrent cap-exempt H-1B for them to stay and work in the U.S.
Requirements to become a Build Fellow:
- Completed Bachelors' Degree
- Have an employer or job offer
- Interest in working with students
